The Legresley Biliary Registry and Comprehensive Profiling of Young Patients with Biliary Tract Cancers or those with Underlying Inflammatory Disorders (BTC-CYPRESS)
Aim/goals:
To investigate the genetic information (WGS/RNAseq) found in patients diagnosed with advanced biliary tract cancer (BTC) with the hopes of finding ways to better treat and improve survival among patients with BTC.
To establish a repository of samples and data including blood, stool, fresh/archival tumour tissue and comprehensive, prospectively collected clinical data.
To prospectively determine the demographics and potential environmental risk factors predisposing to the development of BTC through detailed questionnaires and to further evaluate how risk factors may impact outcomes.
To evaluate the prevalence of germline alterations that may contribute to the development
of BTC tumorigenesis.
Summary:
Biliary tract cancers (BTC) comprise a heterogeneous group of malignancies, which include gallbladder cancer (GBC) and cholangiocarcinomas (CCA). Molecular profiling of tumours has identified a number of potential targets in BTC underscoring the need to reclassify this group of malignancies. This cohort is a prospective study where epidemiological data, blood, tumour and stool samples will be collected from patients diagnosed with advanced BTC. A sub-cohort who are aged 55 years or younger or have underlying inflammatory disorders will be enrolled and compared to patients with typical BTC.
